If you had to create a list of things that annoy you when working out and exercising, your headphones cutting off half way through or having no charge to begin with, is arguable right up there on that list.
Â
Thankfully, Adidas have come up with a solution.
The new Adidas RPT-02 SOL headphones – whilst not the most memorable by name – are one of the first of a new era of solar-powered headphones.
Built using “ground-breaking light cell material that converts all forms of natural and artificial light into battery life”, these headphones should, in theory, do away with the need for charging cables and plugs.
It also boasts a feature which allows you to “find the best light with the innovative light indicator”.
As for charge time, Adidas claim the headphones are capable of storing up to 80 hours of playtime for those dark evenings or twilight runs, and potentially unlimited playtime if the lighting is just right.
Add to that the 10m Bluetooth range, Voice Command, Microphone, and the fairly lightweight design of just 256g, it should have everything you need for a few hours in the gym or a long walk with the dog.
Not only are they friendly towards your electricity bills, but they’re also good for the environment.
According to the Adidas website, 51% of the materials are made from plastic which is “87% post-consumer recycled PC-ABS and recycled nylon (excluding plastics in electronic components).”
Very eco friendly indeed.
Now these headphones aren’t cheap, but given what they are and do, it’s not overly expensive either, with the tech available for £199.95 on the Adidas website. You can grab a pair for yourself here: Shop Adidas RPT-02 SOL Headphones
We haven’t tested these ourselves yet, so how effective they really are and the type of light you need for an extended battery life is out for debate.
But with reviews looking pretty upbeat, we’re optimistic they’ll be a worthwhile addition.
Be sure to keep an eye out for the review soon.
